1986-1987: Dynamite

Original Line-up: Ian McKay, Lead Guitar and Lead Vocals, Dave Williams, Electric Bass, Double Bass and Lead Vocals, Danny Rowlands, Drums Mark Light - Drums (replacing Danny Rowlands in late 1986 just prior to recording and releasing our E.P.) Jeff Snell, Drums (replacing Mark Light in 1987) .
Dynamite split when I was offered the role of “Young Elvis Presley” in Forever Elvis. I had to join the British Actor’s Equity Union before I could work in theatres. My name, Ian McKay, was already taken by another actor, cameraman, extra, so I used my son’s name, Ricky McKay, which later got shortened to Rick.


1987-1989: Forever Elvis

(aka: Memories of Elvis)

The full show featured THREE actors playing Elvis Presley at different stages in his career. The cut down version of the show did not include Dean Solomon, with Ricky McKay instead playing the role right through to the vegas years.

Dean Soloman, Movie Years Elvis (1960-1970) .
Big Jim White, Las Vegas Elvis (1970-1977) .
Billy Dean sang the opening number and was billed simply as “Rock ‘n’ Roll Singer” .
The band members were as follows… Pedro - Lead Guitar and Vocals, Paul Brierley, Bass Guitar and Vocals, Rick Cadman, Drums, Pete MacDonald, Keyboards, Johnny Sax, Saxophone and Flute, Tony Bone, Trombone, Unknown, Trumpet, Maria Cullum, Lead and Backing Vocals, Berenice Bell, Lead and Backing Vocals.
The show also featured Elvisa Lisa-Marie portraying Elvis as a child and four dancers, although the line up was ever changing. Some featured were, Amanda Clark, Karen Black Tara Stoppard, Jacqui Bannister, Penny Rochelle (who also portrayed Priscilla Presley in the show) .

1989-1990: Elvis and The Rock ‘n’ Roll Years

The band members were as follows… Chris Jones - Lead Guitar and Vocals, Paul Brierley, Bass Guitar and Vocals, Rick Cadman, Drums, Pete MacDonald, Keyboards, Johnny Sax, Saxophone and Flute, Tony Bone, Trombone, Unknown, Trumpet, Maria Cullum, Lead and Backing Vocals, Bernice Bell, Lead and Backing Vocals. Dancers: Amanda Clark, Karen Black Tara Stoppard and one other which varied. Karen Black’s sister, but her name escapes me.
I rejoined Forever Elvis as the opening act for it’s tour of Russia in December 1989 when it became the first ever rock musical to tour the Soviet Union. This was all made possible by Mikhail Gorbachev’s wife Raisa. The show ended for good in February 1990 when the writer, producer of the show died and shortly after I moved back to Portsmouth.

Ian McKay Lead Guitar/Piano/Lead Vocals, “Shakin” Jimmy Russell Bass Guitar, Mark Bowles Drums (we also had various guests in this band as it only played one night per week in the same venue, starting at The Sir Loin of Beef in Highland Road before moving to the Racecourse Snooker Centre in Portchester.) .

1993-1994: Rick McKay and Freeway

Rick McKay, Acoustic Guitar and Lead Vocals, Tony Hinks, Bass Guitar and Vocals, Ray Lucking, Drums and Vocals, Dave Carmichael, Lead Guitar and Vocals.
On April 18th 1994 Rick visited Nashville and signed with GMC Records. “Freeway” The intention was for "Freeway" to continue with Frankie Riedel as a replacement for Rick McKay, but they decided against it, opting instead to disband after Rick left for the USA on June 1st.
